In this episode of Tool School, we will explore the Pattern Cutting Guide. The Pattern Cutting Guide is designed to cut around patterns while creating or adjusting a seam allowance.
The Pattern Cutting Guide features a clear ruler with markings ranging from ¼” to 1 and ¼”. The wide range of markings is fantastic for altering seam allowances for patterns without the need for marking. The Pattern Cutting Guide makes it easy to add extra wide seam allowances to side seams for easier alterations, narrow existing seam allowances for knits, deepen hem allowances, and add quilt seam allowances around basic templates.
To use the Pattern Cutting Guide you will need a craft knife and self-healing cutting mat. Simply insert the cutting blade into the slot so that the blade protrudes slightly from the bottom of the Pattern Cutting Guide. Align the Pattern Cutting Guide so that the intended marking aligns with the edge of the pattern and cut with the craft knife while moving the Pattern Cutting Guide along the marked edge.
The Pattern Cutting Guide is great for any project that uses a paper type pattern. It makes altering seam and hem allowances quick and easy.
