What does it do? – Tatting is a needle art that requires only a shuttle, some thread and a creative vision. Add a handy set of picot gauges and you have all the tools necessary to achieve that vision.
Clover Tatting Shuttle – Clover tatting shuttles are considered “post shuttles” because the tatting thread is wound around a post that holds the top and the bottom of the shuttle together. The shuttle works as a thread-holder and functions much as a weaving shuttle when manipulating threads between the threads held by the opposite hand. An extended tip is attached to the end of the shuttle to aid in joining to picots or correcting tatting errors. Clover shuttles are available in two sizes, standard and large. Select the size that feels best in your hand. Keep in mind you can wind more thread on the large tatting shuttle.
Clover Picot Gauges – At its most elemental state tatting is comprised of rings and picots. If your goal is to create a symmetrical pattern, it is essential that all of the picots you create be exactly the same size. Easier said than done until now. Previously you had to hold a space after the first half hitch until the second was formed to lock it in. And you had to do it just by sight or feel. Now, using Clover’s new picot gauges it’s a snap to hold the first half stitch at a uniform selected distance until the second half stitch is in place. Then just rinse and repeat for each additional picot needed and voila, you have produced precisely perfect picots. The set of Clover Picot Gauges comes complete with seven gauges at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10 and 13mm to accommodate virtually any pattern.
