What is it? – Sequels. We love them. We couldn’t wait for the next Star Wars, Twilight, Bourne Identity, or Captain America movie to come out. We were captivated by the first one and couldn’t wait to see what was next. As usual Clover has what’s next in the sewing notions category. And it’s an award winner. You know the original. You loved the original. The original 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge became the “go to” tool for virtually any measuring application we needed to do, whether quilting, fashion, home decor, or heirloom. Being able to measure and place our hems, seems, pin tucks, button holes, appliqué, circles or whatever else just became instantly easy and predictably precise. But is there a way to improve on this super tool, to make the sequel? Yes there is and once again it comes from the collaborative efforts of Clover and Nancy Zieman. It’s the new Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge. As with the original, the list of possible applications continues to grow. This is truly a multifunction sewing tool that is well worth seeing again and again.
What does it do? – Measuring, marking and cutting are so important to everything we do in sewing. But measuring comes first and that’s made so much easier with the new Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge. It’s all that you’ve come to expect and more.
-
The left side of the gauge is measured from 0 to 10 inches for easy measuring. The right side of the gauge is measured from 0 to 11 inches to measure the radius of circles and arcs.
-
The width of the tool is 5/8″ to make quick work of measuring standard seam allowances. Individual column widths of 1/4″ are included for our quilters. The space between the columns is 1/8″.
-
The moving curser locks into place at 1/8 inch intervals up to 10 inches. Measure from the top of the “T” to the top of the locking curser for perfect hems every time. And by the way, with the new supersize very long hems are now possible.
-
As with the original you can create perfect arcs and circles. The right side of the gauge is measured in 1/8″ increments from 0 at the pivot point up to 11 inches at the top. Hold the pivot in place with Clover’s Tailor’s Awl and insert a marking pen into the locking cursor at the radius desired and inscribe the perfect arc or a circle up to a 22″ in diameter.
-
The “T-Square” feature of the Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge allows you to measure both length and width at the same time. You can also use it to set perfect right angles in any sewing project requiring square placement.
-
The increased length helps to align patterns with the straight of the grain. It’s fast, easy, and accurate.
-
Space, place and size button holes. Use the space between the top of the gauge to the top of the curser to measure the length of your button holes. The same feature can be used to transfer the distances between button holes from a pattern to your garment or you can make custom settings as suits your design.
